“Parliamentary Constituency Factsheet for Indicators of Nutrition, Health, and Development in India”

Co-Authored Working Paper

This is a working paper that I collaborated on with Dr. S.V. Subramanian of the Harvard Center for Population and Development Studies and Prof. Rockli Kim. This working paper aims to provide estimates for political bodies called parliamentary constituencies (PCs) in India by transforming data provided in terms of geographic units called districts. Given that the overlap between PCs and districts is not standardized across India, such that a PC may exist in between two districts or there may be multiple PCs within a single district, a cross-walk analysis was employed to transform the district-level estimates into PC-level estimates. This type of analysis is very important for decision-making in India because policy decisions are only made by PCs, but the MPs rarely have the proper level of data to make informed decisions.

The paper was included in the Harvard Center for Population and Development Studies (HCPDS) Working Paper series Volume 8, Issue 14. The paper is also listed in Dr. S.V. Subramanian’s email correspondences.
